still here, but a little more out of touch

November 21, 2006

Sorry for the lack of updates since coming back.  Ever since coming back from the retreat, it has been almost non-stop activity.  We’re going everywhere, taking on new responsibilities, even, meeting up with old friends.  I think we’ve all struggled to find time to rest, relax, think.

So, I may actually decide to cut out Internet much more often in the future, at least until I can get back.  There’s just too much going on now.  I promise to inform you, at some point, about some of the things I’m learning, the lessons I’ve been seeing, but, for now, I just need to rest.

So, just to let you know, I probably won’t be updating this blog much in the future – there’s just not enough time in the 3 weeks that remain.  Here and there, I may send off a brief note, but that may be it.

I hope I’ll be able to write much more on the other side of the Atlantic.

back in action

November 11, 2006

Wow, those 10 days flew by.  Sierra Leone, I now see, really is different upcountry.  Much quieter, sleepier, and much MUCH more excited to see white people.  On our drives, the kids would run out of their homes screaming at us as we passed by.  I’m sure a big part of it was that they’re not used to white people sitting on top of a pile of bags in the bed of the truck…but what a view!

I really enjoyed the time upcountry; it gave us plenty of time to just spend time together and build community – something that we realyl havent’ had the time to do around Freetown.  Lots of laughing, fun cooking together, and enjoying the wildlife – monkeys, hippos, elephant tracks/dung (oh so close to seeing them – they’re quite rare in these parts), and tons of cool birds (with Cami’s help, since she’s our resident birdwatcher).

So, now we’re back in Freetown for the last 5 weeks.  Time is really flying by, and the process of getting everything in order looms large – there’s still so much I want to see and do before we go.  Please be praying for good time management on my part(a big theme Cami brought up during our time on the trip) all the way until we board the plane in mid-December.
